A. We will do as long as they meet our minimum order value which is 5000 USD for export and 10,000,000 IDR for local sales
A. We partner with producers who care about protecting the environment in Indonesia.
We encourage producers to use recycled materials and up-cycle products where possible. We actively support producers who are environmentally responsible. We try to work with producers who are certified and work in accordance with the standards of:
SVLK (Indonesian Legal Wood) FSC (Forest stewardship Council) PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) and TFT (The Forest Trust). Zenddu actively encourages its producers to be environmentally responsible and to join environmental organisations.
A. Our Ethical & Fair Trade policy is a trading partnership pledge we operate with our producers. We ensure all of the individual craftsmen, artisans and workers who work in partnership with us receive fair compensation for the goods they produce.
Trade Opportunities
We enable them to move from income insecurity and poverty to economic self-sufficiency and ownership. We give small producers a regular source of income, and for many, an opportunity to export their products for the first time. Many whom don’t even have a bank account.
We look to maintain long-term relationships with our producers based on solidarity, trust and mutual respect that contribute to the promotion and growth of Fair Trade.
Working Conditions
Many of our producers work from home or in small village co-operatives often in remote locations. In these circumstances, we have no control over working conditions.
However, those working for companies, we require the company to ensure a safe working environment that satisfies at a minimum all local statutory regulations
PRE SALE QUESTIONS
(FAQ Buying furniture and importing from Indonesia)
A. We are always adding new products to our ranges and collection. At present we have around 12,000 products.
A. These are the steps from inquiry to shipment.
Step 1 – Send us your inquiry with quantities
Step 2 – We will send you a quotation with Ex-works prices.
Step 3 – We can calculate an estimate of the consolidation & export costs for the inquiry if you require.
Step 4 – You place an order
Step 5 – We give you an approximate production completion. This will vary depending on the type of products to be made and how busy our production is.
Step 6 – We send you a proforma invoice for 50% of the goods value. You can request a sample making before production which is chargeable at a rate 2 times the production price for approval first. If no sample is ordered then all specifications are fixed as per our proforma invoice and can not be changed. Any changes later are chargeable.
Step 7 – When payment has been received from you we send you a payment confirmation.
Step 8 – Production starts immediately after the deposit has been received.
Step 9 – About 2 weeks before production is due for completion we will ask you for the balance payment, as different suppliers will need paying at different times as they have made their part of your order. We will confirm the export costs. We will send you a final invoice for the balance payment of the goods and an consolidation & trucking Invoice (If any consolidation is required for the order).
Step 10 – When you have paid. We will send you a payment confirmation for both payments.
Step 11 – Around 2 weeks before completion we will contact freight forwarders to prices for the freight shipping by sea or air. We contact 2 or 3 freight forwarders for quotations for the export costs and freight charges to the required destination. You can also get prices from your own freight forwarders if you wish as long as they can produce all the documentation to export. You can alos mix using a local freight forwarder for the export and your own freight forwarder for the freight. It pointless getting prices any earlier as shipping prices are constantly changing and only fixed for around 2 weeks. ALL costs for this you pay direct to the freight forwarder not Zenddu.
Step 12 – When the goods have been made our quality control staff will visit all the suppliers and do a full inspection of all products.
If the order is less than USD 5,000 we don’t visit as its not economical to do so, but ask the supplier to send photos of all the finished products before and after packing.
Step 13– We send you photos and videos of all the products so you can see them.
Step 14– If any products are rejected we advise you immediately, find out how long they will take to be fixed and you decide what you want to do.
Step 15 – When all the goods are ready, we arrange packing if needed and send trucks to collect all the goods, which are brought to one of our consolidation warehouses.
Step 16 – Once all the goods are in one location we can arrange for the freight forwarder to send the container or you organise this yourself if you are using your own freight forwarder. The freight forwarder will confirm with you the date it is being loaded, date it will ship and the date of arrival.
Step 17 – The container is loaded and trucked to the port. Where possible we will send you photos and videos of the container being loaded.
Step 18 – If you chose to use our partner freight forwarder, we will give you their contact details. You will be able to track the containers progress through them. They will contact you discuss the paperwork, for example, Bill of lading to make sure all the information on the document is correct for your countries customs.
They will issue you an invoice for the freight charges and you pay directly to them not us.
Order complete.
A. It means the price from the place of production. It’s like a collection price. If you went to a local company and bought items you would buy them and take them away. However, you would expect to pay a delivery charge if you asked them to collect goods from other companies in other locations and then deliver it to another location in your country or overseas.
Most of our suppliers pack items which is included in the price, but some don’t and we have to arrange it to be packed and add this cost. It doesn’t include any special packing requirements you have.
Most items or packed in single face corrugated paper for loading in a container. You may request all items be boxed or if they are being shipped LCL they may need crating. It also excludes any trucking, consolidation cost, export document costs or freight shipping) These are charged separately for the total shipment not per item.
A. It quite simple, it’s impossible for us to quote FOB prices in a price list or quotation. The reason is FOB prices are from one location usually a factory and trucked to the same port every time so the cost can be calculated easily.
However, our products are made in 100’s of locations and we ship from different ports, depending which is the closest port. If you order a mixture of products which is what 99% of customers do, they most likely are made in different locations.
This is the problem. The goods then need to be trucked to a central location so they are together for loading on the container.
This cost is never the same as it depends on the location of the production, how many different locations, how far apart they are from each other and the quantities ordered. As all customers order different products and reorder different products or quantities the cost is always changing and never fixed.
In simple terms FOB is the cost of goods + a proportion of the export cost added to each item.
We give you the cost of goods + the cost to consolidate the goods + the cost to export the whole order as a separate costs. These consolidation costs can only be calculated once the order and quantities have been decided and fixed.
A. Yes! We have our own quality control staff who inspect all products.
When your order has been manufactured our quality control staff will travel to each location where the products are being made to inspect the products. The inspection is a FULL quality control inspection. This includes counting every item to make sure the right quantities have been produced, checking products meet the right specifications, and a physical inspection of every product for any signs of defects (including scratches, marks, finishes, stability etc)
All wooden items are moisture tested. Any products not meeting our high standards are rejected and reworked until they reach the necessary standards required. If any item needing fixing can not be fixed in time to meet the shipping date we will advise you immediately and a decision is made by you to ship the rejected product separately once complete at your cost, add the rejected item to the next order or cancel the faulty item.
For orders that are less than USD $5,000.00 we don’t visit the suppliers as it’s not economical but ask the craftsmen to send us photographic evidence of the finished products before and after packing.
A. Yes, on our standard products the minimum order value is US$5000.00 for export and 10,000,000 IDR for local orders
However, we will accept a lower value but you need to understand there are certain costs incurred by you for the exporting of the goods imposed by the Indonesia government.
You need to understand this before deciding on the value of the goods you want to order.
In Indonesia to export goods an export certificate is required.
There needs to be licences and certificates for certain goods exported that are required by law. What’s required depends on the type of products being exported and the type of materials they are made from. For example wooden furniture needs a V-legal certificate to prove wood is from government approved sources and not from illegal logging.
The licences and certificates are per shipment NOT per item. This certificate costs around 150 USD per shipment and covers all relevant products in the shipment. So for example if you order 1 wooden furniture item or 1000 it’s the same cost.
Another example is marble it needs a certificate no matter what the item is. These costs are paid by you, and without the licences and certificates the goods will be seized by customs. If by some miracle they managed to get exported without the goods would definitely be seized by the destination country’s customs and destroyed.
So inclusion if you order only 1 dining chair valued around 50.00 USD you will pay around 300.00 USD to export it plus freight costs. Making it now an expensive chair!
A. Minimum order quantities vary from product to product, Most products you can order just one. However, depending on the product discounts can be available for larger quantities. So if we quote a price for 1 item this is the highest price.
However, We will advise you if any item needs to be higher quantity. Common sense will tell you what needs to by a higher quantity. This will be mainly for small cheap items. For example we sell bamboo straws you can’t buy 1 you need to buy 100. But most furniture can be bought singularly.
A. Our standard terms require a 50% deposit of the goods value. Once the deposit is received we then start production. The balance and any consolidation and export costs are due 2 weeks before the completion of the order and paid must be fully paid before we release them for any ocean or air freight shipping.
A. To make our pricing competitive we work on small margins. Most of our producers are small companies, co-operatives or individuals working from home in rural areas. They’re craftsmen not businessmen and live simple lives, Most don’t have the financial resources to buy the raw materials and pay other craftsmen to produce your goods without the payment of a deposit.
A. Unfortunately at this time we don’t offer credit terms.
A. Normally our quotations are valid for 30 days.
A. The packing materials used will vary depending on the products. Generally, most goods are packed with corrugated paper, or boxed. Fragile large items, for example, large ceramic pots are packed in wooden crates. Products can also be packed to customer requirements and specifications at an additional cost.
A. All countries have different laws, regulations and restrictions for products being imported and we don’t know the laws of foreign countries. In the eyes of the law in your country, you are the importer, so you are responsible to make sure the goods comply with your countries regulations, not the manufacturer.
We can not be held responsible and It is for you to check with your governments appropriate departments to ensure all products being imported into the destination country by you conform to the import countries rules, regulations and laws.
Including but not limited to any importing licences required, quota restrictions, limitations on the import of any item, banned imports of some or all products from a particular country of origin, any goods type restraints, any size restrictions, any banned materials, specific safety regulations covering the products, ensure labelling and packaging meets legal requirements, Products do not infringe intellectual property rights within your country, any duties and taxes.
You MUST advise us in writing of any restrictions, regulations or standards required for the products relating to importing to your destination country before placing an order.
Any loss, claims, costs or seizure of products incurred due to products which do not comply to the laws and regulations of the country the products are being imported too. Are at your risk and not our fault.
