Experts in the global market
WESTERN STANDARDS
Buying products from a foreign country can be risky.
Many comments we here from customers about the problems they have faced in the past with importing include; language miscommunication problems, late deliveries, quality not good, specs are wrong, even the goods were never delivered, the list goes on.
With covid causing havoc around the world, travel restrictions and lockdowns being the norm, jumping on a plane to check the quality of your order isn’t that easy anymore. Plus it can be expensive, with flights, hotel bills etc.
Our British management team has over twenty-five years of experience in the global furniture & home furnishings markets. We understand your needs and quality expectations. We take furniture quality control very seriously. We back this up with our own in-house experienced quality control team.
Because of this you are in good hands.
Pre-Production QC
QUALITY TESTING
Our quality control and administration staff follow an in-depth quality control procedure.
When you place an order our admin staff will send the order to the craftsmen to start production.
They then call them and speak to them in their local language, normally either in Indonesian, Javanese or Balinese languages to go through the order.
They check to ensure the craftsmen understand, the quantities to be made, the specifications and sizes of the products, the raw materials to be used and any special request you have asked for.
This is not a quick call, but a thorough conversation and calls have been known to last 3 to 4 hours to discuss everything with the craftsmen.
With all wooden furniture products, the wood then goes into an oven to be kiln-dried. This takes around 2 – 3 weeks depending on the time of the year.
Production QC
QUALITY ASSURANCE
The time the manufacturing takes depends on the quantities and how difficult the items are to make. Normally a 40ft container will take about 6 – 8 weeks as a guide.
Our admin staff will stay in contact with the craftsmen throughout the order and get weekly updates on how the order is progressing to keep the production on track for the estimated completion date.
Depending on the location of where the goods are being made, if it is close to one of our QC engineers, they will visit the craftsmen to do a furniture quality control production inspection to check the progress of your order and take photographs and videos of the production.
However, if the production is too far away then we ask the craftsmen to send pictures and videos of the production, which we then send to you to keep you updated with how things are going.
Post-Production QC
QUALITY CONTROL
When your order is finished, our QC engineers will go and visit the craftmen and do a full furniture quality control inspection of your order. We don’t do a partial inspection like some suppliers, but a full 100% inspection of every product.
The products are first counted to make sure the correct quantities have been made. Sizes. specifications and any special request are checked that they are correct. With wooden furniture we do a moisture test to check the moisture level of the wood.
A physical inspection is done for defects, scratches etc. We work on a zero tolerance policy where all goods must be 100% perfect to be passed.
Any goods we reject the craftsmen will rework the items, we keep repeating this process until we get a 100% pass.
Photographs and videos are taken of the products and sent to you for approval.
In the unlikely event we get a situation where the goods cant be fixed in time, we will contact you immediately and together we can decided the best course of action. This depends on what the problem is and how many.
Consolidation & Packing
EXPORT PACKING
When the quality control has finished and you are happy then the next step is to consolidate and pack the goods.
If your order is made by different craftsmen, which is the case with the vast majority of orders then the goods need bringing together to one location for loading.
We collect the goods by truck and they are moved to one of our consolidation warehouses. A few craftmen don’t pack goods for export so with these items we pack them ourselves.
Most goods are packed either with single-face corrugated paper or boxed. Fragile items like for example garden pots are put in wooden crates.
We check the packing to make sure it is adequate and add extra packing if we feel it’s not.
The code number of the item is written on the packaging or a sticky label added by our QC staff so you can identify what the item is when it arrives.
Container loading
CONTAINERS
The final stage is the loading of the container. If the order has been sent to our consolidation warehouse then our staff load the container with our QC staff overseeing the loading.
However, if your order is from one supplier the goods stay at the craftsmen’s factory and are loaded from there by the craftsmen.
Photographs and videos of the loading are sent to you.
